As we head back to school we thought we should take a break and talk about belonging. This impacts our children and it impacts us. Today we talk about the kids. Don’t be surprised if we talk a bit about our inner voice and our authentic self. Join us this week as we talk about how we can help the children in our lives find that sense of belonging.
“Belonging is being accepted for being you. Fitting in is being accepted for being like everyone else.” - Brene Brown
As we head back to school we thought we should take a break and talk about belonging. This impacts our children and it impacts us. Today we talk about the kids. Don’t be surprised if we talk a bit about our inner voice and our authentic self. .
The challenge is that belonging isn’t measured by simply participating in activities like eating dinner together as a family, showing up to a school building, or joining a group. Belonging is measured by how we feel about ourselves and others once we get there.
We spend time in this episode sharing the ways we can start building a sense of belonging at home. It is not the easiest thing to do but we can start with simple steps like making rhythms and memories. We can give our children, and children in our lives a safe place to belong.
Just take it from Mister Rogers, who knew how important it was for children to know that “I like you just the way you are.” And join us this week as we talk about how we can help the children in our lives find that sense of belonging.
